Summer Settings for Oklahoma
Oklahoma summers regularly push past 100°F, making your thermostat settings critical for both comfort and your electric bill. The Department of Energy recommends setting your thermostat to 78°F when you're home during summer. For every degree you raise it above 72°F, you save about 3% on cooling costs. When you leave for work, bump it up to 85°F or use a programmable thermostat to do it automatically.
Winter Settings for Oklahoma
Oklahoma winters are unpredictable — you might see 60°F one day and an ice storm the next. Set your thermostat to 68°F when you're home and awake during winter. Drop it to 60-62°F while sleeping — most people sleep better in cooler temperatures anyway. If you have a heat pump, avoid setting it back more than 2 degrees at a time, as the system will switch to inefficient auxiliary heat to recover.
Smart Thermostat Benefits
A smart thermostat like Nest, Ecobee, or Honeywell can learn your schedule and adjust automatically. Most homeowners save 10-15% on heating and 15% on cooling costs after installing one. ARP Heat And Air installs all major smart thermostat brands — call us for a quote.

Monthly Setpoint Guide
Oklahoma's climate swings dramatically. Settings that work in July don't work in March. Here's a rough month-by-month target.
January-February: 68-70°F during waking hours, 62-64°F overnight and when away. Humidifier running if dry air is causing static/skin/wood issues.
March: Transitional — set thermostat to "auto" instead of heat-only. Overnight lows in 40s still need heat, but afternoon highs in 70s don't.
April-May: Set to cool mode at 74-76°F. Humidity starts climbing.
June-September: 74-78°F depending on tolerance. Every degree cooler adds roughly 3-5% to your cooling bill.
October: Similar to March — auto mode. Heat on cool mornings, AC on warm afternoons.
November-December: 68-70°F during day, 64-66°F overnight.
Programmable vs smart thermostat savings: Simple programmable thermostats save 8-12% versus always-on. Smart learning thermostats (Nest, Ecobee) save 12-18% by learning your actual patterns. Neither saves anything if you override constantly.
