Average furnace repair costs in the Oklahoma City area โ what to expect and how to save.
Common Furnace Repairs and Costs
Here's what typical furnace repairs cost in the Oklahoma City metro area. These are real-world ranges based on our experience, not inflated national averages.
Ignitor replacement: $150-$300. This is the most common furnace repair โ ignitors wear out every 4-7 years and cause the furnace to fail to light. Flame sensor cleaning/replacement: $100-$250. A dirty flame sensor causes the furnace to light briefly then shut off. Blower motor replacement: $400-$800. You'll notice weak airflow or the fan not running at all. Draft inducer motor: $400-$700. This motor vents exhaust gases โ when it fails, the furnace won't ignite as a safety measure. Circuit board replacement: $500-$1,000. The brain of your furnace โ symptoms include erratic behavior or complete failure. Heat exchanger: $1,000-$3,000. The most expensive repair โ if cracked, it's usually better to replace the entire furnace due to carbon monoxide risk.

Part-by-Part Cost Breakdown
Most furnace repairs fall into a predictable range depending on what failed. Here's what each common repair costs.
Flame sensor cleaning/replacement: $150-$250. Most common furnace repair. A dirty or failed flame sensor causes the furnace to ignite and immediately shut down.
Ignitor replacement: $250-$400. Hot surface ignitors fail after 5-10 years. Replacement is 20 minutes of work plus the part.
Capacitor replacement: $180-$280. Blower capacitor failure shows up as the blower not spinning even though you hear the furnace igniting.
Inducer motor: $400-$700. Harder to replace but common. The inducer pulls combustion gases out through the flue.
Gas valve: $500-$900. Less common but serious. Gas valves should be replaced rather than repaired.
Control board: $400-$800. The "brain" of the furnace. Replaces less frequently than mechanical parts but costly when it goes.
Blower motor: $500-$900. Motor failure โ usually preceded by bearing noise for weeks before complete failure.
Heat exchanger: $1,500-$2,500+ for the part alone. A cracked heat exchanger is a safety issue (carbon monoxide risk) and usually the deciding factor for replacement vs repair.
When repair doesn't make sense: If the repair exceeds 50% of replacement cost AND the furnace is 15+ years old, replacement is usually the better choice. We'll give you an honest read during the diagnostic.
