Real answers from Charlie, owner of ARP Heat And Air.
Best fits: rooms with no ductwork (sunrooms, additions, garages, finished basements, master suites with hot/cold issues), older homes where ducting is impractical, supplementing problem rooms in ducted homes, and whole-house systems for homes under 1,500 sq ft.
Single-zone (one indoor head): $3,500-$5,500. Multi-zone (2-4 heads off one outdoor unit): $7,500-$15,000. Whole-home (5+ heads): $15,000-$25,000+. Per-zone cost drops as you add heads to the same outdoor unit.
Yes โ most modern mini-splits are heat pumps that handle both. Cold-climate models work efficiently down to 5ยฐF outdoor. In Oklahoma, mini-splits provide year-round comfort, often replacing both AC and supplemental heat in the rooms they serve.
Indoor heads: 19-30 dB on low (quieter than a whisper), 35-45 dB on high (quiet office). Outdoor units: 50-60 dB at 3 feet (similar to a refrigerator). Significantly quieter than central AC condensers โ why they work so well for bedrooms.
For smaller homes (under 1,500 sq ft) or open floor plans: yes, often a great fit. For larger homes with multiple stories and many rooms, a central system is usually still more cost-effective. We'll honestly tell you when central is the better choice.
12-18 years with maintenance. Outdoor unit (where the compressor lives) is the lifespan-limiting component. Indoor heads last longer because they have only fans and coils, no compressor.
Yes โ most ENERGY STAR-certified mini-splits qualify for the federal 25C tax credit (up to $2,000) and possible OG&E rebates ($300-$1,000). We identify everything applicable during the quote.
Less than central HVAC. Each indoor head needs only a 3-inch hole through the wall for refrigerant lines, electrical, and condensate drain. No ductwork. Typical installation: 1 day for single-zone, 2-3 days for multi-zone.

"Charlie, owner of ARP, came highly recommended. He was professional, honest, and reasonably priced. He replaced 2 over 20-year-old units for me. Very pleased with his work!"
"We've used Charlie/ARP at our former home and our new home. He normally doesn't do new construction but made an exception for us. Charlie is honest, very knowledgeable, and keeps at it until everything works right."
