Furnace Options for Oklahoma Homes
An 80% AFUE single-stage furnace costs $2,500-$4,500 installed โ it's the most affordable option and works well for smaller homes. A 96% AFUE two-stage furnace costs $4,500-$5,500 and is what we recommend for most Oklahoma homes โ it runs on low speed 80% of the time (quieter and more efficient) and kicks to high only during extreme cold. A 97-98% AFUE modulating furnace costs $5,500-$7,000+ and provides the most even heating with the lowest gas bills, adjusting output in 1% increments.
Proper Sizing Matters
An oversized furnace heats your home too quickly, cycling on and off frequently. This wastes gas, creates uneven temperatures (hot spots and cold spots), and wears components faster. An undersized furnace runs constantly during cold snaps without reaching your set temperature. We calculate the right size based on your home's square footage, insulation, window count, and orientation.
Installation Day
Most furnace installations take 4-8 hours and are completed in a single day. We remove and dispose of your old furnace, install the new unit, connect gas and electrical, test all safety controls, verify proper combustion, check airflow and temperature rise, program your thermostat, and walk you through operation. We leave your mechanical room cleaner than we found it.
Rebates and Tax Credits
High-efficiency furnaces (95%+ AFUE) may qualify for federal tax credits through the Inflation Reduction Act. Some Oklahoma utility companies also offer rebates for high-efficiency installations. We help you navigate available incentives and handle the paperwork.

Choosing the Right Furnace for Your Oklahoma Home
A new furnace is a 15-25 year decision. Here's how to think through the options so you pick what fits your home, not what the salesperson pushes.
Gas vs electric. If your home has natural gas service, a gas furnace will almost always be cheaper to operate than electric resistance heat. Oklahoma gas rates are low, making gas the clear winner for most homes. Exception: if you're converting to a heat pump system, the "furnace" question becomes a heat pump question.
Efficiency tiers (AFUE rating):
โ 80% AFUE (basic single-stage): $3,800-$5,000 installed. Simple, reliable, uses existing venting. Good choice if your current furnace still vents through a traditional chimney/flue.
โ 90-95% AFUE (high-efficiency single-stage): $5,000-$6,500 installed. Condensing furnace that vents through PVC. Requires new venting install, but saves ~15% on gas bills versus 80% AFUE.
โ 96%+ AFUE (two-stage or variable-speed): $6,500-$8,500 installed. Best comfort (modulates output based on demand), quieter, best efficiency. Often worth it on larger homes with high winter gas bills.
Sizing matters more than efficiency. An oversized furnace short-cycles, wastes gas, and distributes air poorly. An undersized furnace runs constantly and can't keep up on the coldest days. We perform Manual J load calculations before quoting โ most competitors skip this step and "rule of thumb" it, which leads to oversizing.
Ventilation review. A new furnace often requires changes to venting, gas line sizing, or combustion air intake. We check all three as part of the install quote, so there are no surprises after you sign.
Typical install timeline: 1 day for straightforward replacements. 1.5-2 days if we're also updating ductwork, venting, or electrical. We pull permits and schedule inspections.
