A ductless system has two components: a small outdoor compressor and one or more indoor air handling units mounted on the wall or ceiling. They're connected by a thin refrigerant line through a 3-inch hole in the wall — no ductwork needed. Each indoor unit has its own thermostat, so you control the temperature in each room independently (zone control). This means you're not paying to heat or cool rooms you're not using.
